Warner Bros presents: Neon Genesis Evangelion

There are no original ideas left in Hollywood.

Or, as Dan Harmon recently said:  "The young eat the old... but what are they left with? 100 degree weather and a bunch of shitty comic book movies."

Indeed. This is why I keep watching Anime...

I felt del Toro should've said "no" and tried a different tack. (His Hellboy movies were better). But probably the lure of $$$$ was too strong.

YES, YES! This is why I watch almost exclusively anime like you, Robert. The ideas seem fresher and more plausible in the animation medium than in this theater drek, unless I'm missing your entire point.

I admit I do make some rather cryptic posts from time to time - open your interpretation about what I'm really trying to say - but this one is pretty straightforward. -_^ The irony is that I'll still watch this movie, because I can't resist anything Sci-Fi, but I'm pretty sure I’m going to find it obvious and predictable. I hate knowing that ahead of time.

Understood! I guess what bothers me is from beginning to end movies are sacrificing story and characterization in favor of effects. Of course, movies have around 100 minutes and a typical anime has 325-650 minutes to develop the good stuff.
Maybe I'm comparing apples and oranges :)
I may give this movie a look, though. It's been a while since I hit the theaters!

This was the first thing I thought of when I watched the trailer! Then again I doubt they will haver the , the gore, the sex and the suicidal characters we love so much.
I will probably watch it but it wont top NGE.

It's an open love letter homage to Japanese Mecha Anime, Godzilla, etc... Why would you be upset with del Toro for making something so awesome and amazing? :(

@Renzor - I'm no more 'upset' about this than I am about cheap South Korean knockoffs of Prada bags. You're taking this too seriously.
