Updates - September 12th, 2008

Few Schedule Updates, Delays & Cancelations

We got the word from Funimation this week that Yu-Gi-Oh GX, Vol #5 DVD has been pushed from 9/2 to 10/14. The next volume of Sonic X was also bumped a couple of weeks back to 9/23.

<---- Eye Candy. :-)

Three upcoming figures have been canceled, the first two due to licensing issues and the third due to a price and distribution change, so we've taken these down off the site for now:

1) Idolmaster Xenoglossia: Chihaya Kisaragi 1/7 Scale Figure [Enterbrain] (Canceled)
2) Pleniar De Ikou: TG Syle Pleinair w/ Car Non-Scale Figure (Canceled)
3) Ikki Tousen: Ryomou Shimei Maid in Cuffs 1/6 Scale PVC Figure (Canceled)

This stuff happens all the time as the Japanese licensing partners are always crossing up with each other over one issue or another. I hope the see these back on the schedule at a later date.

Funimation is still working with Geneon to solve the current issues getting backstock on some of the new re-releases on time, and expects the problem to be worked out soon. Back volumes of stuff like Karin and Kyo Kara Maoh should all be in stock shortly, and Funi told me yesterday that the new Shana and Fate/Stay boxes should be arriving on Monday or Tuesday. Hey, those dates they set are really just guidelines anyway...right? Sort of like the posted speed limit... -_^

I'm sure a lot of you are wondering where the Limited Version of Lucky Star 3 is, and if it's ever going to come out. I talked to the product manager out at Bandai this week and he told me that getting all this bad disk stuff sorted out is causing long delays, but we should expect to have the Lucky Star 3 LE in stock by around the middle of next week. On a side note, many customers are telling me that their replacement Code Geass disks have started to arrive directly from Bandai and that (for the most part) the episodes are now playing fine, however, a few have reported that they are now having problems playing some of the extras on disk 2 - which ironically played fine on the original disks. In any case, if you have any problems with the replacement disks Bandai has sent you, please make sure to contact them again and let them know. Third time is the charm after all...

Funimation Announces 'Kaze no Stigma'

New licensing announcements have been few and far between since the summer cons, but this week Funimation announced the acquisition of the 24-episode Kaze no Stigma series, which was produced by Gonzo and aired in Japan from April through October of 2007. Based on the light novels by Takahiro Yamato, Kaze no Stigma is an action / comedy / romance reminiscent in tone of the original Full Metal Panic. Jun'ichi Sato directed the Kaze no Stigma anime, which is the story of Kazuma, the descendent of an ancient clan skilled in the "Fire Arts," who is sent into exile after he is defeated in a test of succession by his flame-haired female cousin. When he returns having mastered the art of the wind (he can fly and direct wind gusts at opponents etc.) the love/hate relationship with his cousin really heats up. Funimation has added the series to their slate of 2009 DVD releases.

Just for Fun - Japanese Grocery Shopping

If you think you've seen some weird wacky stuff at the local 7-11, this is the sort of thing you might run into grocery shopping in Japan:

Now if we can just get her phone number... :-)

Shuffle Art Box Almost Sold Out

If you've been thinking about picking up the Shuffle 'Fetish', sorry ummm, 'Collectors' Box this will be your last chance. Funimation is now sold out nationwide and the small stock we have remaining will be the last of them. Our gal at Funi told me this week that the demand for the art box (which includes the special limited Shuffle 'GOD' panties) took them a little bit by surprise and that they just did not make enough, though they have no plans to produce anymore. Get em while they last!

While the The Girl Who leapt Through Time is the only new license on the list from BE, BV has announced several BluRAY titles including a Freedom Project BluRAY boxed set which I think will be most welcome to all the folks that got burned collecting the pervious HDDVD release. BE also surprised everyone by announcing the first release in the Bilingual version of Gurren Lagann. This version was originally scheduled for spring of 2009. The folks at Bandai have told me that the new release is indented to replace the existing subtitled only DVD's, and that the current subtitled DVD's will not be repressed and will fall out of print once existing stocks are exhausted.

Notable Figure Pre-Orders

We added quite a few more figures for pre-order this week, and we finally got a picture for the upcoming sweet looking Queen's Blade Vagrant Warrior Leina action figure. This week we focused mostly on upcoming Kotobukiya items which are always high quality but at a very good price, often less than the same figure sold for in Japan. See the figure section below for the whole list of what we've added.

New Arrivals In Stock This Week

In the new DVD dept this week we have Black Lagoon Second Barrage, Vol #2 DVD (which is excellent by the way!), XXXHolic, Vol #5 DVD, the 6th DragonBall Z DVD Boxed Set (Cel Games) and the 2nd Buso Renkin DVD Boxed Set which has arrived over a month early! Thanks Viz!

In a slightly smaller new manga update we have notable new arrivals such as Negima, Vol #19, Samurai Deeper Kyo, Vol #30, and Tactics, Vol #6 plus several new series like Burst Angel, Get Backers Infinity Fortress, and TokyoPop's new horror series Goth.

Once again we have a huge new figure shipment in route that did not arrive in time to get in this weeks newsletter, but it's due Monday or Tuesday and I'm sure you'll be pleased with what's coming. We did get two small new figure shipments this week, my favorites being the beautifully done Street Fighter: Ibuki Figure and the very cute Kamikita Komari from little busters. Be sure to check them out!

Well that's it for this week. Have a great weekend everyone and enjoy your Anime!
