Ghibli Drops First La Tortue Rouge (Red Turtle) Trailer

A first trailer for The Red Turtle - the new Studio Ghibli co-production project directed by Oscar winner Michael Dudok de Wit (Father and Daughter) - has arrived, ahead of the film’s Annecy premiere next month. And, of course, it is a stunning example of what happens when hand-crafted animation artistry meets the careful application of technology.


The Red Turtle follows a man stranded on a desert island, whose attempts to escape are thwarted by a giant red-backed turtle - perhaps for the best. The screenplay is co-written by Dudok de Wit and Pascale Ferran (Lady Chatterley, Bird People). The film is a co-production of Studio Ghibli, Wild Bunch, Why Not Productions, Belvision, Arte France Cinema and CN4 Productions, with Prima Linea overseeing the animation.

Funimation Adds The Empire of Corpses to the July 2016 Release Schedule!

Funimation has added another new release to their July 2016 release schedule, and we now have it up on the store site for pre-order:

Synopsis: From the studio that produced Attack on Titan comes a captivating historical action thriller based on an award winning novel by Project Itoh. In an alternate version of 19th century London, the world has been revolutionized by "corpse reanimation technology" creating armies of undead who serve the living as laborers across the globe. In an attempt to revive his dearly departed friend, young medical student John Watson becomes obsessed with replicating the work of Dr. Victor Frankenstein—the legendary corpse engineer whose research produced the only re-animated corpse to possess a soul. But when his illegal experiments put him at odds with the British government, Watson is drafted into a race to find the lost research notes of Victor Frankenstein before the secrets of the human soul fall into the wrong hands.

Lots of S.A.V.E. editions and re-issues this month. But hey, we are getting Lucky Star on BLURAY! Yeah! Also, recently Funimation has started doing more Sub Only releases, so we wanted to point out that this month Shonen Hollywood, A Good Librarian, Samurai Warriors, and Yatterman Night are all Sub Only.

Also, a lot of people have been writing in asking if the Lucky Star OVA's were getting dub treatment this time around. I wrote Funi and the brand manager for Lucky Star finally got back to me:

  "As with the original Bandai release, the TV series is dubbed and the OVA will not be dubbed."

So no dub for the Lucky Star OVA's, just the TV series.
