Funimation Announces DragonBall Z 'Rock the Dragon' Edition for August

Funimation just sent over a note to let us know they are adding a new special edition release of the original broadcast version of DragonBall Z to the schedule:

DragonBall Z Rock the Dragon Collector's Edition DVD Boxed Set

The box will street on August 20th. MSRP will be $99.98

Release highlights:
• Contains Eps #1-53 + 3 Movies (Dead Zone, the Worlds Strongest, and Tree of Might) on 9 DVD's.
• Each Collector's Edition comes in a hardbound, full color 48 page book; which showcases the characters, history, and tropes that helped elevate Dragon Ball Z to the pop culture phenomenon it is today
• Never before released in a DVD collection - this is deep in the Funimation vault!
• This release includes the original opening theme song "Rock The Dragon"
• The original Canadian voice cast can only be found on this release

Section 23 Reschedules Queens Blade Rebellion to September

Just got a note from Section 23 that they are going to need to delay the release date for Queens Blade Rebellion on DVD and BD back a couple more months from July 9th to Sept 24th:

Sentai Recalls the Kids on the Slope BD

Sentai Filmworks has issued a recall for the Kids on the Slope Blu-ray Complete Collection (SFB-KOS100) due to eps 11 on the BD set having only MONO audio on the Japanese language track. Opps.

This recall effects the BD version only.

We have put the BD version back on pre-order status and Section 23 says we'll have replacement BD stock in about 2ish weeks. If you purchased and received  a copy of the BD version from RACS prior to the recall and want your set replaced, please just drop us an e-mail and we will setup an exchange for you (no worries, we'll pay the postage both ways) once our replacement stock arrives.

In addition to the exchange set, we'll include a $5 discount coupon that you can use for your next Sentai purchase to cover your time and trouble.

Funimation Consolidating Operations Under New Name Group 1200 Media

Just got the following notice from Funimation:

"Today we are excited to tell you about an important development in the distribution of FUNimation Entertainment and its products. In an effort to emphasize the company's expanding portfolio of entertainment content and products, FUNimation Entertainment will be consolidating its existing divisions under the unified name of Group 1200 Media effective May 18, 2013.

Group 1200 Media is a multifaceted entertainment conglomerate. This production, marketing, and distribution corporation strives tirelessly to accomplish its mission of delivering quality entertainment brands – along with their associated products – across a multitude of genres. Group 1200 Media is committed to continually releasing and developing exciting new properties representative of its diverse background in the entertainment industry."

I talked to our rep down in Houston briefly today. It's a paper reorganization. FUNimation is not being sold and nothing is changing except the name. 'Group 1200 Media' will be the new name for the company and the 'FUNimation' brand will remain as their Anime label. Clearly they have been looking to move beyond just being an Anime company for awhile now, and it's pretty clear they are looking to pursue projects that they did not think would be a fit under the FUNimation brand name

So stand down, it's nothin but a thing. :-)
