Funimation Will Begin Scheduling Former ADV Titles Soon

Everyone is asking us about the status of the ADV titles Funi is going to re-release. Since I've already answered this question via e-mail over 100 times, I thought I'd go ahead and post about it :-)

Today Funimation sent us this formal statement:

ALL pre-orders that have been placed for the batch of titles that used to belong to ADV films (but are now going to be released by Funimaton) will remain open and on the books until Funimation finalizes their release schedule for these. We have left the following releases up for pre-order with no current release date:

Devil May Cry, Vol #3, Level 3 DVD
Kanon, Vol #6 DVD
Pumpkin Scissors , Vol #5, Battlefield of the Heart DVD
Red Garden , Vol #6 DVD
Shattered Angels , Vol #2 DVD
Shattered Angels , Vol #3 DVD
Tokyo Majin , Vol #4 DVD
Welcome to NHK, Vol #5, 5th Conspiracy DVD
Welcome to NHK, Vol #6, 6th Conspiracy DVD

None of these titles will be out in August like the rumors floating around the Anime boards are suggesting. Don't be too concerned about the stated 'packaging changes' either. They have the change the logo's and such, and all the UPC and studio codes so that retailers cannot try to return their extra ADV to Funimation. Other than that, it looks like the releases will remain as is, and will begin release in October. We'll post that information in a couple of weeks as soon as Funi passes it on to us.

And to answer from the earlier question on top of it:

I would not expect any of the Sojitz titles much before the first of next year.

They have to wipe out ADV from the titles -- this is going to mean new artwork, new DVD artwork, new credits, what have you...

Forget "confusion" -- I'd think that Sojitz was not going to allow anyone to take over the ADV titles unless there was a promise to wipe all mention of ADV from the product. That's what might make this a bit more difficult than at first glance.

So Now that they finalized the released dates for adv titles, for example, Kanon Vol 6, will already made pre-orders be re-routed?

That's correct, as I said in this post, all existing pre-orders will remain open and will be filled as the product is rescheduled and released.

Robert,

I have read in www.animeondvd.com that Pumkin Sissors will only be released as 2 box sets, and the final volume will not be released as a single dvd. Can you comment on this, I currently have vols 1-5 and only need vol 6 to complete the series.

First: Never believe anything you read and only half of what you see on AOD. -_^

Second: In this case, the info is correct, and it does not seem that Funi is wanting to take the financial hit on all the ADV licenses they picked up by allowing fans to just buy the volume they need. The fan in me wishes they would do it the other way, but the retailer in me understands why. There are many reasons they would do it this way and none of them have anything to do with ‘screwing the fans’. ADV was the one that did that on these shows, lets not forget that.
